Where EU law requires guest registration
For reservations booked on or after 20 November 2026, Airbnb's house rules policy says hosts may not “solicit personal information such as a government ID, except where required by law and in other limited circumstances” (Airbnb, Reasonable house rules and requests). Your product needs to know where the law requires it. We track that for all 27 EU member states.
EU-27, checked 29 October 2026 against national law texts, ministries and police sources first.

"Required" means the law obliges the host to record or report guest identity. In some countries the report goes to the police within hours; in others it is a register kept on site for inspection, or a tax declaration (Greece). Several duties apply only to foreign guests. Confidence: high where we read the official text; medium where an official page or law is backed by secondary sources; low where an official source could not be reached.
What the full dataset adds
- Legal basis for each duty: the law, decree or article, with links to the official text.
- Who receives the data, in what form and how fast, including regional systems (for example Catalonia and the Basque Country in Spain).
- Host registration numbers: which authority issues them, the local name, the format where published, and whether listings must show them.
- Regulation (EU) 2024/1028: how each state applies the EU short-term rental data rules in force since 20 May 2026.
- Change alerts when a country's rules move. Coming soon: Ireland's register (December 2026, if the bill passes), Poland's national register (Senate vote in November), Slovakia's register (January 2027) and Croatia's registration number.
- As JSON, or through the LawfulStay API alongside our short-term rental records for thousands of places worldwide.
Where we could not confirm something, the dataset says so and leaves it blank. Several number formats and national data-portal addresses are still being confirmed. This is regulatory information, not legal advice.
