Add your LawfulStay badge to your website

The badge shows guests your permit number, how we checked it and your city’s rules, right on your direct-booking site. Setup takes a few minutes.

Add your badge in 3 steps

  1. Add your permit

In My Account → Permit Vault, add your permit and its number. If our records show your area doesn’t require a permit, you’ll see My area doesn’t require a permit instead.
  2. List your website

Under Websites where this badge appears, add the site where you’ll show the badge, for example myrentals.com (www and other subdomains are included). The badge won’t show anywhere else, so nobody can copy it onto another listing.
  3. Copy the code

Click Badge, then Copy. Your code looks like this, with your own badge ID:
    <script src="https://lawfulstay.com/api/public/badge-script" async></script>
    <lawfulstay-badge badge="hb_…"></lawfulstay-badge>
Paste it near your Book Now button or the property details.

Where to paste it

Paste the whole code (both lines) where you want the badge to appear. Pick your website builder:

WordPress (block editor)

  1. Open the page and click the Block Inserter (+), or type /html on a new line and press Enter.
  2. Choose the Custom HTML block, then Edit HTML.
  3. Paste the code. A preview appears beside it.
  4. Click Update, then drag the block (six-dots handle) next to your booking button.

WordPress removes <script> for users without the unfiltered_html permission. Add the block while logged in as an Administrator.

WordPress.com

  1. Open the page, post or template.
  2. Click + Block Inserter and search “HTML”.
  3. Click Custom HTML, then Edit HTML.
  4. Paste the code and click Update.

WordPress.com only keeps <script> on a paid plan with hosting features turned on (at least one plugin installed); a paid plan alone isn’t enough. Without that, the code is removed when you save.

Squarespace

  1. Edit the page and click Add block (or +), then Code.
  2. Click the pencil icon on the block.
  3. Set the mode to HTML and leave Display Source off.
  4. Paste the code and save the page.

Code blocks run JavaScript only on the Core, Plus or Advanced plan. The badge may not show while you’re logged in; check it with Preview in Safe Mode or in a private window.

OwnerRez hosted websites

  1. Go to Settings > Hosted Websites, choose your website, then the webpage.
  2. In the text editor, click Edit HTML Source < >.
  3. Paste the code where the badge should appear and save.

OwnerRez’s help doesn’t say whether code can go on individual property pages. If the badge doesn’t appear there, ask OwnerRez support.

Using another builder? Look for a block called “Custom HTML”, “Code” or “Embed” that lets you paste code into the page itself. Code added only to the site’s header can’t place the badge on the page. Or email us and we’ll help.

Pill or card?

In Permit Vault you choose the shape before you copy the code. These are live examples with sample data.

Pill

4 bedrooms · 3 baths · Sleeps 8 ·

Small enough for the line with your bedroom count. Guests tap it for the details.

Card

Shows everything at once. Fits a sidebar or the area under your booking form.

Send these steps to your web person

If someone else looks after your website, send them this page. You’ll still need to copy the code from your account and send it to them.

Email these steps

Your badge code includes one short line of plain text inside the badge tag, for example: STR permit STR-2025-0148 · Verified with the City of Denver registry · Checked Nov 2026 · Verify: lawfulstay.com/verify/hb_…. Search engines and AI assistants can read it even when they don’t run the badge’s script. Guests see the badge in its place.

While the badge is active on your listed website, it also adds structured listing data with your permit number and how it was checked. If the badge stops being active, both the line and the listing data are removed, so an old claim is never left on your page. The Verify link opens a public page on lawfulstay.com that shows the badge’s status today.

Copied your code before November 4, 2026? Copy it again from Permit Vault to get the plain-text line.
