🔎 What Happens After You Send Something In
Requesting a new market
For a city, county, region or country we don't cover yet.
Tell us the place. Add a note if you know something we should look at, such as a new ordinance or a recent council vote.
We check whether we already cover it. If we do, you go straight to that market's page.
It joins the research queue. Every request moves a place up the list. The more people ask about a market, the sooner we get to it.
We look for proof. First choice is the official source: the ordinance, code section or city page. Where a government site is missing or unreadable, we need at least two independent publishers reporting the same rule. Proposed and draft rules are tracked, but never listed as law.
We make sure it's the right place. Before a new market goes live, it's checked against every place we already track, so it doesn't become a duplicate or get confused with a town of the same name.
It goes live. Each fact shows what it rests on: “Official source” or “Corroborated by independent reports,” with links. Anything we can't confirm yet is marked “Not yet verified” and rechecked.
If you ticked the alerts box, we'll keep you posted on rule changes in that market once it's added.
Reporting a change or correction
For a market already on LawfulStay. Use the Report Regulatory Change button below, or the “Spot an error or broken link?” box at the bottom of that market's page.
Tell us what changed. The fee, the night cap, the permit rule, the status. A link to the ordinance, the vote or a news story helps a lot.
We start checking right away. We identify the exact detail you flagged and search for evidence that confirms it.
Nothing changes on one person's word. A correction is applied only when the evidence backs it up. A new rule has to be adopted, not just proposed or scheduled for a vote.
The page updates, or the current value stays. If the evidence holds, the market page is updated. If it doesn't yet, the current value stays in place and we keep checking as new sources appear.
You hear back. Leave your email and we'll tell you whether your correction was applied or is still being checked.
Pending votes and proposals are worth sending too. We watch them and update the page once the rule is final.
Getting credit
Include your email and tick “List me on the Contributors page” when you request a market. Each request counts toward your total: 1 to 4 earns the Contributor badge, 5 to 9 earns Expert, and 10 or more earns Pioneer.
We show your name or a shortened version of it here. Your full email address is never published.
